Hidalgo, Texas— The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees finished their three-in-three weekend with a 3-2 loss against the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night at the Dodge Arena. Zak McClellan notched a short-handed goal with just 4:21 left in the game to bring the Bees within one, but it was no match for the Jackalopes who came away with the win. Ross Moyer of Odessa led all skaters in the contest with three points (2-1-3), including a penalty shot with just 24 seconds left in the first period.

Rio scored first with Travis Banga nabbing a power play goal at the 7:55 mark in the first period with helpers coming from Robin Bouchard and Nathan Ansell, but Odessa tied things up with Moyer’s penalty shot going into the second.

It was all Jackalopes in the second where they posted two power play tallies, the first at 16:32 by Moyer, followed by Kory Karlander’s at 18:16 to put the Jackalopes up 3-1.

The Bees battled back with the McClellan short-hander at 15:39, and despite pulling netminder Christian Boucher with 1:09 left, Rio was unable to come back from the second period deficit giving the Jackalopes the 3-2 win.

Juha Toivonen picked up the win in net for Odessa with 27 saves, while Boucher suffered the loss with 37 saves.

The Bees return home to the Dodge Arena Wednesday November 26th where they will take on the Mississippi Riverkings with game time set for 7:35 p.m.
