By Killer Bee Hockey | July 5, 2008

HIDALGO, TEXAS — The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced details of the Jason Cirone/Darren McCarty hockey camp, charity dinner and charity hockey game. Proceeds from the charity events go to Driscoll Children’s Hospital and the McCarty Cancer Foundation.

The charity game, set for Tuesday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m., will feature Cirone’s team vs. McCarty’s team. Members of several CHL teams are scheduled to participate, including, Travis Banga (RGV), Jeff Bes (Laredo), Dennis Maxwell (RGV), Grant Buckborough (RGV General Manager) and Serge Dube (Laredo). Killer Bees broadcaster Rich Bocchini is slated to serve as one of the referees. Meanwhile, RGV President/Owner Troy Nelson, RGV beat writer Brian Sandalow (of the Monitor) and Corpus Christi beat writer Greg Rajan (Corpus Christi Caller Times) will serve as guest coaches.

Cirone has played in the Olympics as a member of Team Italy, while McCarty is a four-time Stanley Cup winner, most recently in 2008 with the Detroit Red Wings. He and Cirone were teammates with the Flint Generals (IHL) this past season as McCarty worked his way back to the NHL.

The Cirone/McCarty youth and adult hockey skills camp also takes place at the RGV Ice Center in McAllen from July 14-18. The charity dinner is scheduled for Monday, July 14, at the Las Palmas Renaissance Hotel on North Main Street in McAllen. In addition, both McCarty and Cirone will be available for autographs at SK8’s Pro Shop inside the RGV Ice Center on Monday, July 14, at 5:00 p.m.

Tickets for the charity game are $5.00 in advance and $6.00 at the door. Call or stop by SK8’s Pro Shop at (956)683-8111 for more information on the camps, charity dinner and charity game.

Team McCarty will destroy team Cirone if for no other reason than my superhuman coaching skills. I must let you know I have an undefeated coaching record in my one game behind the bench. Yes it was with squirts and I basically just opended the door for them and gave high fives, but undefeated none the less. Don’t be surprised to see the goalie pulled in the first 5 minutes of play…
