MINOR OBSERVATIONS, MARCH 9
By admin | March 9, 2008
- Should be a fun day with the quick turnaround and “springing ahead.” Game time in Austin is 4:05 p.m. No video feed today - audio only (www.allinbroadcasting.com) and on the radio at KURV 710.
- Curious to see how last night’s third period ruckus carries over, or not, into Sunday’s game. Both Maxwell and Big Snake took Aggressor penalties, but I don’t believe that will result in any suspensions. I don’t have the league’s Lex Scripta in front of me, so we’ll find out for sure tomorrow.
- Apologies for the troubles with Pointstreak Saturday. The Arena was finagling with the Internet the past few days, trying their best to rectify some virus issues from what I was told. Somehow that translated to no Internet in the press areas. The fact we were able to stream video on the CHL Network makes it all that more baffling. It should be fixed in time for Tuesday’s Kid’s Game.
- The annual Best of the Best Poll is out. If you missed it, Rob Voltera was voted as having the third-hardest shot in the league, while Robin Big Snake was among the league’s most annoying players. Make sure to click on PDF under the picture of John DeCaro for the full list. A little self-pub here; I got voted third-best broadcaster while the game notes I put together were voted tops in the league. The website was listed among the best, as was the Dodge Arena’s locker rooms.

big snake annoying? you mean as if to say that he helps rid the stereotype that a tough guy can’t have skill and vice versa? he reminds me a little bit of Rich Tocchet, Pat Verbeek, Gary Roberts, the kinda guy you want to put on the ice because he can put up points AND defend his teammates. awesome pick-up .. though I got along well with Masse (i speak fluent french) we might as well get something in exchange for a player who more than likely wasn’t gonna be coming back to the valley.
Masse wasn’t coming back. So if you got a bag of pucks, a stick, or Big Snake for him, good deal. And Snake is better than either of the alternatives. I’ve been critical of his play at times for being selfish. Robin can play, but he needs to learn to let the stupid stuff go. However, he is more skilled than you’d think.
I like the comparisons. Tocchet and Roberts are a good one. I also liked Verbeerk from his time as a Whaler. I’d love to see a Wendel Clark reference.
