BIG T AND MORE

NUGGETS OF WISDOM
Robin Big Snake sat out Sunday’s game at Austin after taking a hard hit early in Saturday’s game at Austin. He’s listed as day-to-day.
Captain Rob Voltera also remains a little sore. More on that later in the week.
Resting up — The Bees had Monday off and a Gym Day (600 Plus) on Tuesday. I know the lighter workload is much deserved. I’m completely worn out and feel like I’ve got a touch of a cold, to the point I couldn’t even get up on Tuesday. And, as my standard response goes, all I do is call the games. So I know the players are tired. Add to that Dorados football is right around the corner and I’m up to my ears.
Lines for the last few games were
9-21-20 (29)/19-39-11/16-18-12
47-26/27-94/10-23 (3)
BIG T
For the past few months, Terry Tychon has been following the team around. He’s been on the bus, in the locker room, at the hotels and lunch spots on the road. He’s had unfettered access to pre game speeches, the bench, the coaches office on trade day…you name it, Big T has been around.
When he proposed his idea to me, he told me he wanted to be a fly on the wall. I’d say the guys are more than used to him being around and hardly even notice him or the camera anymore.
He’s got a few ideas on where he wants the film to go but I’ll leave it at that. I’ll say there are avenues for documentaries in places you might not even think of.
I’ll add that personally, Terry is a good guy and we’ve become friendly, thanks in part to our mutual love of the Simpsons and Family Guy.
Read Brian Sandalow’s story on Terry here.
THE HUBBUB IN CORPUS
After Greg Rajan’s State of Hockey in Corpus article came to light, I’ve heard from several folks in the biz who point to the artcile leaning more towards what is “going to happen” as opposed to what “might happen.”
I’d love to see the Rayz buy the old arena, refurb, and go back there. I would think for $5-10 million, they could turn the place around and make it usable again. Then and only then could they have a long-lasting impact on the city. Also on that note, it seems ridiculous to me when these buildings go up and all you hear about is how much money the thing is going to make.
It’s all nonsense. These buildings generally do about 150 dates per year. The touring music industry is much different than it used to be. Bands tour in packages now and especially in the summer do the outdoor “shed” venues. Cities should build these places for a) Quality of life (i.e. live entertainment/sports options); b) community events, graduations, etc. These buildings should be focusing on breaking even and making sure that its anchor tenants can survive. There are very few minor pro teams making money hand over fist.
With what appears to be the inevitable demise of Austin CHL and the tenuous state of Corpus Christi, the “silly season” seems to have begun already. There’s also talk of Beaumont (ECHL) jumping over to the CHL, which would alleviate the logistical and travel problems that would arise if there were no Austin and Corpus. The state of hockey in Beaumont is that the ECHL franchise is moving to Ontario, Ca. That said, the team stated in a press release
In that regard, the Wildcatters have secured strong, local ownership, which is the most important ingredient in the success of any professional sports franchise. That ownership is committed to professional ice hockey in Jefferson County and confident of a successful continuation of the Wildcatters brand of hockey.
Could that mean CHL hockey in Beaumont?
