Austin, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees earned their third road win of the season and ended a six-game winless slide with a 5-2 win over the Austin Ice Bats Friday at Chaparral Ice.
Dennis Maxwell scored the game-winning goal with 50 seconds remaining in the second period after Lance Herauf broke a 1-1 deadlock 1:40 into the middle stanza.
Maxwell (1-1-2), Nick Warriner (0-2-2) and Jason Weitzel (0-2-2) each collected multiple points for the Bees, who also received a 53-save effort from goalie Dave Lemanowicz.
Mike Tuomi and Danny Lapointe scored the other Rio goals while John Ronan and Mike Bartlett connected for the two
The Bees return home to face off against the Laredo Bucks Saturday night at 7:35 PM. The first 1000 fans will receive picture frames.

It sure looks like the acquisition of Jason Weitzel this past week is going to pay dividends as he had 2 assists in his first game and was named 3rd star.

Just trying to look up Big Snake,,, He was a Great asset to the Brahmas orginization,,,, you guys are lucky to have him…. His shirts(jersry’s) sold out within 45 min. of his trade..He gave my son the first game puck at the NYTEX plaza.. Knute and Frank should have looked at what the fans wanted…He was a mentor of “old school Hockey” Dave the “Hammer” Schultz would be proud….
