COMMITMENT CUP BUCKY

By admin | January 16, 2008

Well friends, Day 1 of the 2008 CHL All Star festivities are over and I’m tired but felt the need to post a quick recap.

Travis Banga and I caught a 6:50 a.m. flight out of McAllen to Denver, by way of Houston. Thanks to Tracey for getting up early to give us a ride and thereby save all of us the parking fees. Somehow, Travis flew first class from Houston to Denver thanks to some guy who wanted to sit next to his wife. Why didn’t they both book first class, or coach? We’ll ever know. But having to wait two hours to find out how Bungs wheeled first class gnawed at me.

The All Star Banquet was fun. Josh Blue’s stand up comedy act was great. He won the “Last Comic Standing” thing and was well deserving. He has cerebral palsy and mines that for jokes. Funny stuff.

Grant Buckborough was honored with the CHL’s N. Thomas Berry Commitment Cup for his 11 years of service to the CHL/WPHL. Good for him. Bucky works his butt off and has risen from the ranks of ticket sales grunt to GM.  As far as GM’s I have worked for, he “gets it” better than most. So congrats to him, it’s well deserved.

The All Star Game will be broadcast on KURV 710 Talk Radio beginning at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday night. For anyone who cares, if you want to hear my color commentary along with Brian Clark of Rocky Mountain, tune in to KURV or online at killerbeehockey.com. The CHL Network will have a “TV” broadcast with Tori Holt of Colorado and Robby Incimoski of Arizona.
