BEES GET BEAUCOUP WITH BIG SNAKE

By Killer Bees Media Relations | January 8, 2008

Hidalgo, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League today announced that the team has acquired the rights to LW Robin Big Snake from the Texas Brahmas in exchange for the rights to LW David Masse.

Big Snake had eight points (1-7-8) and 208 penalty minutes in 25 games this season with the Brahmas. A 23-year old native of Siksika Nation, Alberta, he is one of the most feared enforcers currently playing minor professional hockey. Last season with the Rockford IceHogs (UHL), he had 330 PIM in addition to 42 points (17-25-42) in 67 games.

As a pro, he had 136 games of experience entering this season and had collected 759 PIM. He also added 88 points (44-44-88) and earned two callups to the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), posting six PIM in three games.

As a junior, Big Snake appeared in 207 regular season games and had 712 PIM in addition to 83 points (38-45-83) from 2001-2005 with Vancouver (WHL), Moose Jaw (WHL), Portland (WHL) and Owen Sound (OHL).

Masse, 26, had 12 points (5-7-12) in 13 games with Rio Grande Valley before departing the team in late November. He is currently playing with the Isothermic Thetford Mines of the LNAH in Quebec.

Sounds like a good addition, but when is the GM and Coach going to realize their problems DEFENSE!!

Get some dmen in here that are physical, take the opponent off the puck, can control the zone and make a first pass out of the zone. This is getting ridiculous.

Just thought I’d point out that the “GM” is the coach. The coach at this level of hockey makes all “hockey decisions,” while the GM handles the business.

It sounds as if this guy is right out of the movie Slap Shot. You’ve got to love that! Time to put on the foil coach.

What a name. I’ll by a ticket to see him work.

This is exactly what we needed - this is the best move Fixter and Bucky have made all year.

If anyone on this board watched the same game I did last night against Arizona, then they understand completely. Banga is a great asset to our team. We need to protect our assets, and we didn’t have anyone to defend him (or Herauf - who actually held his own pretty well) last night when we really needed it. He probably was a little high with the elbow on the check against the boards in the 2nd that heated things up , but it doesn’t matter. Our scorers like Banga, Herauf, Bonar and even Voltera can’t be distracted by aggresive checks and fights. We need a guy or two (Maxwell being the other guy) who can remove those distractions by getting out there and taking people on.

If Fixter uses the Big Snake (what an awesome name) and Maxwell efficiently, our forwards will be checked less aggressively, which means the puck will be held in opposing teams zones longer, which means we’ll have less pressure on our defense (and the defense is definitely a weakness). This guy doesn’t win us the Cup, but we’re a much, much better team if used properly.

You have some good points Kevin. But one observation I saw was that when Banga was run by Sellan, Bonar came in and took Sellan on. Thats a good teammate, and happens to be a scorer. Sellan may have got the first punch in but Bonar took over from there, whaling on him after that. Like I said your make some good points, but I still figure any guy, scorer or not should always be out there protecting their linemates. Yes Big Snake will be the enforcer, but if he’s not on the ice at the time an opponent takes liberties, then it is up to teammates on the ice to protect one another.

Off subject, when was the last time a killer bee scored a hat trick in a game or especially a hat trick at the Dodge like Bonar did last night? Anyone know? I think its been awhile.

Roger - Bonar did do very well….good point. I think mentally knowing you have a guy on the bench that will come out and knock people around helps.

Bencharski had the last hat trick in 2005 against Laredo.

Big Snake is faithful enforcer and will retaliate! He was a serviceable offensive player in the UHL, but just hasn’t produced with the Brahmas. His temper and lack of production made him a liabilty. Hope he fits in there.

I think the “SWnake” has found a home here in the valley. Hes not with the Powder Puff Bramhmas anymore. He with the Killer Bees. He will fit in here.

I haven’t seen Robin since he was crawling. Play hockey and enjoy the game. You have skills and you can skate with the best.
