RAYZ POWER PLAY DOWNS BEES

By admin | January 6, 2008

Corpus Christi, Texas — A four-point game by Jon Jankus and four power play goals pushed the Corpus Christi Rayz to a 6-1 victory Sunday at the American Bank Center.

Joe Blaznek bagged the eventual game-winner at 14:40 of the first after the puck ping-ponged in front of Bees netminder Jeff Van Nynatten.

Rio’s Lance Herauf notched his 10th goal of the season just 16 seconds into the game to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. Herauf’s goal was the quickest by a Bee from the start of a game, edging Matt Medley’s goal 18 seconds into a game at Corpus on Feb. 26, 2006.

Jankus scored his first of the game 5:15 into the first while Josh Bonar was off for tripping, then added another on the power play in the second period to make it 3-1. The rookie out of the University of Maine assisted on Blaznek’s game-winner and also on Brent Howarth’s power play goal to make it 4-1. Geno Parrish and Adam Powell closed out the scoring in the third.

The Rayz went 4-for-11 on the man advantage and peppered Van Nynatten with 40 shots. Rayz goalie Jason Tapp made 21 saves for the win.

Corpus pulls five points ahead of the Bees for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Southern Conference.

Tonights game just stunk!!!!!!!They did not play the same as they did Friday & Saturday even though they lost
Saturday night. There was no defense and no offense.
They played so bad that even the Corpus fans felt sorry for us. I could tell that Coach Fixter was very disappointed in how the guys played. As a season ticket holder I know you have to take the good with the bad but, tonight this was beyond bad. When they scored in the first fifteen seconds of the first period it looked like they came to play but, it just went down hill from there.

Well, I am very pleased with the outcome of the last 3 games. Granted, I would have wanted a better outcome for Sunday’s game, but to get 3 points out of 4 from Laredo and Colorado was great. Sunday’s game was horrible. I think the “Mr. Hyde” team showed up instead of “Dr. Jekel”. I was expecting a total DISASTER weekend, but it was a good turnaround. Hope the boys get a good rest and come out swinging on Tuesday. GO BEES!!!!!!!!!!
