EAGLES EDGE BEES 3-2 IN OVERTIME

Hidalgo, Texas— Aaron Schneekloth nabbed the game-winner one minute into overtime to lead the Colorado Eagles 3-2 over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in front of a sold-out crowd Saturday night at the Dodge Arena. Colorado fought back from a 2-0 hole to come away with the overtime win.

Mike Tuomi put the Killer Bees up early in the first period with a 5-on-3 power play goal directly in front of the Eagles net at 5:16 with helpers coming from Lance Herauf and Travis Banga to give the Bees the 1-0 lead going into the second. 

Rio posted their second power play goal of the night another power play goal at 11:16 when Ladislav Kouba, with the help of Josh Bonar and Jon Hedberg, walked off the right boards and put a 30-footer past Marco Emond to put the Bees up by two.

Colorado’s Ed McGrane converted on the power play to narrow the gap to 2-1 with only 1:26 left in the second periof, then Eagles right-winger Fraser Filipic tied things up 2-2 just 26 seconds into the final period. 

Emond came away with the win in net ending the night with 21 saves, while David Lemanowicz suffered the loss with a season high 53 saves.

The Bees travel to Corpus Christi to face the Rayz Sunday afternoon at the American Bank Center. Game time is set for 3:05 p.m.

NOTES

• Rio’s Fifth Anniversary Weekend at home has garnered three points. The Bees are now three points behind Corpus Christi for the final playoff spot in the South.
• he Bees retired Sean Gillam’s No. 7 jersey in a ceremony prior to the game.
• Lemanowicz along with the Bees defense were able to hold of an early 5-on-3 Colorado advantage at 10:19 in the first period, and held the Eagles 1-for-9 on the power play tonight.
• Netminder David Lemanowicz has had an outstanding weekend, stopping 93 shots in just two games while allowing only five goals.
