BEES DROP 8-1 DECISION TO DOGS

By admin | December 23, 2007

Prescott Valley, Arizona — Olivier Latendresse had a hat trick and an assist  to help lead the Arizona Sundogs past the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 8-1 Sunday at Tim’s Toyota Center.

The Dogs, who are now 10-1 at home, opened up a 6-0 lead by the end of the second period. Latendresse punched home his third goal on a 2-on-1 just 1:34 into the third period to secure the hat trick.

Rio ended Bill Zaniboni’s shutout bid with Ladislav Kouba’s third goal of the season at 1:34 of the third. Zaniboni got the win with a 23-save outing.

Latendresse’s four-point night capped a sparkling two-game game set that began with a goal and four assists on Friday night. Karl Sellan and Jon Landry each had a goal and one assist while Alex Leavitt had a goal and two assists.

Jeff Van Nynatten had 35 saves in the loss.

The Bees drop to 8-13-4 with the loss while Arizona is now tied for the league lead with a 19-6-1 record. With the win, Arizona’s coaching staff will represent the Southern Conference at the CHL All Star Game in January.

Rio finally returns home this Friday and Saturday with a pair of games vs. Corpus Christi at 7:35 PM. The first 1000 fans on Friday night receive Killer Bees pillow cases as part of Pajama Party Night.

    Hey Rich

Heard your comment regarding salary cap. Curious to know how Levitt and Redenback fit in that picture when they are signed by the Coyotes and most likely are being paid a good sum. Between the two of them, wouldn’t their salaries pretty well cap out the Arizona team or do their NHL affiliated salaries count? Assuming they make what I Know others that have signed of their calibre. (~$30,000 - $40000 range) per season. That wouldn’t be hard to prove, however the rest who play under the table would be tough. It is amazing that everyone knows about the payolla, but can’t prove it. I’ve heard about this kind of thing in the junior ranks to, but no one can prove it. There has always been a lot of lively discussion on that subject. I know the bees are not into that, but the playing field doesn’t seem fair when you have a bankrolled team/owner. Or maybe an NHL affiliation may cure some of that, if their salaries aren’t included. Any fact that may happen for next year?

Only comments about the game tonight are, I feel sorry for the guys, but ya know, it takes hard work, team work etc..blah, blah blah for an entire 60 minutes to give yourselves a chance to win. I would expect the team will make changes especially with their back end in the near future. The lack of physical play is very disheartening. Fighting isn’t the answer, its the checking bone crushing plays along with riding guys into the boards and open ice hits is what is needed.

Have a safe trip home and Merry Christmas Bee Fans and Players!
