SCORPIONS BITE BEES

Rio Rancho, New Mexico — The New Mexico Scorpions scored seven unanswered goals in the first period en route to a 10-3 thrashing of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Saturday night at the Santa Ana Star Center.

Craig MacDonald had a hat trick for the Scorpions, while Andrew Smale and Vladimir Hartinger each added two goals and an assist. Konrad Reeder fell one helper shy of tying a CHL record with six assists.

There lacks a passion out there. Who is to blame, who knows. It is a team effort and right now it looks like it isn’t there. Hopefully the time off in Arizona will rejuvinate some of the passion that is suppose to be there. I was on the coaches the last few weeks, but now, I got to agree the players are just out to lunch.

i work for a company where team work comes to be very strong and when things were going wrong my boss always told me its your coaching. but you want to know something you can only coach so much after that it’s the determination that comes from your co workers or in this cases the players that make’s them want to take that in and make a change in there game plan.

    take this to heart

FAIL TO PLAN , PLAN TO FAIL

i dont mean to sound sour but i love this team and i want wins as everyone else does

    happy holidays to all

I work for a company right now that is going through real rough times at the moment. Some of the problems are attributed (water cooler talk) to the leaders of our company. In this case the senior workers and plant executives. The same applies (in my opinion) with the Bee’s. The coaches and captains are failing as leaders to lead this team into the promise land. Not all rest on their shoulders, however the bases to success likely begin with them. Here’s to some soul searching with the leaders and players on the team while they get it together in Arizona. I’m not sour either, I’m just frustrated as a fan, and would like to see some leadership by example from the coach, captains and assistant captains as well as the other veterans of the league on this team. From the coaches; this team needs motivation and good line combo’s. From the Captains and Assistants; hard work, hustle and, some physical take it for the team attitude. From the other vets; hard work, team work and good play selection. The rookies; hard work, never give up attitude and good play selection. Go Bees </p>

I can already see Roger and Me (BTW great movie in my opinion) throwing down. Just kidding. The idea of this thing is to create discussion. I can tell you that the coaches of this team are two of the hardest working, most prepared guys I’ve seen in my 10 years of doing this. I would not say they are failing as leaders. I’ll tell you what Roger, give me your line combos since you don’t like the ones you see and I’ll pass them on. Besides that, your “what this team needs” sounds an awful lot like the typical “don’t forget, the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is….that little extra!” type BS you hear in the usual corporate training video (if someone can tell me where I ripped that from, I owe you a beer).

The fact is there are no easy answers to turning this thing around. There have been several games where pucks that otherwise should have gone in have not, whether it be great saves, missed nets, or pucks rolling on edge at the last second. It’s happened so much I’m starting to believe there’s some sort of hex on the team or something. It’s baffling at times.

As a fan, you certainly have every right to vent your frustration. And since this is sports, there’s always going to be armchair coaches who think they know “what the team needs to do.” Being a little closer to the matter at hand, I’ll say that nothing is ever as easy as it appears.

The end result for the fans is that it doesn’t matter, they just want wins. And I get that. While I don’t consider myself a “homer” broadcaster, my response is that I would hope the fans continue to support the team, air out their grievances when appropriate (and in proper ways), and hope for the best.

I think every team runs into a year like this….injuries, new people no mixing well with their teammates, and other distractions….we need to just be TRUE fans and support them in good and bad times!!

I’ll only add one more comment and then I’ll let it go.

Again Ill say that I don’t know what the issues are and to be honest I can deal with losing games when it seems we are playing our best and just get beat.

My observation is that we are NOT playing our best and it even appears like we give up or take a rest in the latter part of the game.

I don’t like to lose when it is attributed to that.

    My humble opinion….

It has been a while since ive seen the bees play a decent hockey game,Ive seen them play since Season 1 and even then things were exiting,a 10-3 loss is emberasing not only to them but to the Rio Grande Valley. We need to stop giving away our veteran players, look at Laredo for example:Jeff Bes,Serge Dube,Rivet,Hiebert,Simoes.

    Hey Rich,

If it looks like, as you say, the coaches are doing their jobs, then I have to figure the C’s and A’s are NOT. Time to step up and out of the box boys.

Line combo’s are a chemistry thing. The coach is suppose to figure that out, but if its not working start doing some real experimentation. I couldn’t really tell you since I don’t know the players, but to find chemistry you must experiment for a few weeks not one game here and there. The combo’s should in my opinion be a mix of speed, a rugged power forward who can contain the wall and corners, a guy who is defensive minded and a tenacious forechecker and of the three at least one that can put he puck in the net. Now I don’t know if this team has 2 full lines of these type of players. I could list guys who I think show that type of abilities, but I will let the coach figure that out. I could name some who are on the first line that shouldn’t be mainly because of their lack of defense, forecheck and slow skating as well as lack of creativity, but again the coach should be stepping up for that and doing something about it regardless of hurting someone’s feelings.

The third line should consist of just a checking style line, speed and forechecking skills who can pop in the odd goal here and there, but this may take away from the skill needed for the first two lines on a team like this and with only 10 forwards to choose from.

But really, the defensive core is a huge problem on this team. More so than anything else. I’ll leave that to the coach also to figure out who should stay and who shouldn’t.

I will be behind the team thru thick and thin, however, I may spout off from time to time, if things are getting ugly like at the moment.

    Go Bees Go!

    Hey Mike,

If your veteran players are the ones that look like they can’t skate hard or work hard every shift, why keep them. Sure Bes and the rest of the vet Larado boys are doing well, because they have heart and soul and want to succeed. I’m not saying the vet Bees don’t want to succeed, but by their efforts of late, I’m wondering if they need to change some of them and bring in some energetic hard working potential. Where they really need help is their defense. Not much experience back there and really shows, big, big time.

    Go Bees Go!

Hey Rich, it’s a Jimmy Johnson quote.

  13. Beesrock Says:

I think the quote is from the 212 degree motivational movie that has been floating around for a while. It’s theme is that at 211 degrees hot water is just hot water, at 212 degrees it boils. Boiling water creates steam which can move a locomotive - one degree can make a difference. Is that is Rich? I’ll take a Bud Light…lol

That may be but the answer I was looking for is the movie “Waiting.” Hilarious is you get to see it. /em>

maybe they should stay away for a while and think it over. they should consider if they want to play hockey. they can always help out at the vipers games if they want to hang it up.

  16. HDM Says:

What they need is a different coach for the defense. They are all continuing with the “stick check not body check and then they follow-up with the “dump and chase” philosophy of Gillam.

I support the BEES 110% but to lose 10-3 to New Mexico is embarrasing to the organization, the Rio Grande Valley, and to the GREATEST MOST PASSIONATE FAN BASE in the CHL. We have the best fans, eventhough we have a losing season a couple of years ago we’re still behind the BEES, look at attendance we’re ahead of Laredo and they have the best record in the Southern Conference. We (fans) are asking for the players to play with HEART and never to give up,is that alot to ask for?
