GAME NOTES, DEC. 15
By admin | December 15, 2007
Updated roster and game notes for tonight’s game at New Mexico.
And the roster shuffle continues…Jared Silver gets waived to make room for Dan McNeill, and Dennis Maxwell is due to come off the IR. We’ll have to wait and see what, if any, changes are made prior to tonight’s game.
UPDATE: Dennis Maxwell has been activated from the IR and Jason Slusher has been placed on 14-day IR, retroactive to Dec. 8.
Thoughts on last night’s game…
- I’ve never seen so many missed breakaway chances and miffed 2-on-1’s as I did last night. It could easily have been a 6-0 lead for Rio at one point. I’m not here to cast blame and throw anyone under the bus, but this is a team that needs to find its confidence quickly. I’m told the ice in Amarillo wasn’t very good and it seemed like that factored into the 2-on-1 misses.
- Another outstanding performance by Jeff Van Nynatten. I’ve been meaning to go thru last year’s stats to see how many one-goal losses the Dutchman was in net for (I want to include games where teams added empty-netters). It seems like a ton and that the kid can’t catch a break sometimes.
- Dennis Maxwell was my color man last night. While it was fun having him in the booth, I’ll be happy to see him back on the ice. If you missed the game, you can listen to the audio archive (and every game) at www.allinbroadcasting.com/pastshows (sometimes it takes a while for the archive to be posted).
- Thankfully both Corpus Christi and Austin lost last night, so the Bees actually gain ground in the standings.
- Kudos to Benny Morales, our bus driver, and Esteban (who made this trip as a second driver) for safely getting us to New Mexico. Usually around a four-hour trip or so, this one ended up taking closer to seven, which is fine. The roads were icy, it was windy, there were numerous accidents, and the bus felt like a plane flying thru bad weather. By the time equipment manager Doug Tretiak, trainer Jorge Garcia and I got back from loading in at the Santa Ana Star Center, it was 6:30 a.m MST. These trips wear me out but at least there’s some time to recover in Arizona. I can only imagine how tired those guys are after battling the roads.
- A few hours in mountain air and my skin already feels like sandpaper. Anyone have any home remedies?
