Hey Rich
Is there some secret love affair with Voltera. He was a minus 3 tonight and his totals remain the same (-8) as they were last weekend. Seems fishy to me. Do vets get special treatment when it comes to stats. Rookies seem to lose them on a daily basis. i.e. Bonar had 6 assists one day then 7 the next day and then back to 6. The same has happened to Hareauf. Toumi seems to be getting some advantage with the stats man too. He seems to pick up points after the fact…..Anyway, what really baffles me is the infamous lost minus stat for Voltera…..Is there a conspiracy happening between the vets and rookies. This does not make for good chemistry on the team…..As you probably are aware, I kind of watch the stats a lot…..
Roger,
I’ll start by saying I don’t know how you can make a blanket statement such as “that was bad coaching.” Coaches don’t score goals, nor do they create turnovers, miss breakaways, or give up two shorthanded goals. Players need to execute.
As far as stats go, yes there is a conspiracy going on. I also got abducted by martians last night. Voltera was plus-2 last Friday, even on Saturday, and was minus-5 entering this weekend. So his minus-3 on Friday makes him minus-8. Stat corrections happen all the time; I’m the guy that handles it. It’s easy to miss assists, get the wrong number of an assist, miss who’s on the ice, etc.

Rich,
I agree that the players have to execute. I am not stating that. My comment refers to the coach putting out a bad plus minus line when the chips are on the line. Sending out the Banga line with less than half a minute to go in a one goal game is the wrong choice. This line was already minus 2 for the night and overall that stat is poor among them. In my opinion, the coach was putting them out there to pad their veteran stats with the net empty instead of putting out a solid defensive line to win the hockey game. (Thats just my twisted mind thinking anyway). I have to admit though, its pretty tough putting a good plus minus line out on this team. Most are in the negative anyway, but I firmly believe that combo last night was the wrong choice for whatever reasons.
By the way, how was the trip to Mars last night. Just ribbing ya. Glad to hear you made the trip to New Mexico safe and sound. It sounded like a hairy ride in. Kudo’s to your bus drivers. My apologies for the mistake on Voltera’s stat. My bad. I appreciate your play by play. You do a great job. Any chance of eliminating the camera shots of the fans during games and keep it on the ice surface between whistles? Last night in Amarillo it was great to see the score clock on the bottom left. Good luck tonight Killer Bee’s. Do some damage. Why didn’t Slusher play last night?
