Minor Observations, Dec. 9

By admin | December 9, 2007

Just got back from the team Christmas party at the 4E Ranch in North Edinburg. What a place. They cater to some of the high rollers who come to the Valley for one reason or another. As a matter of fact, a few players on a certain football team are due to arrive later tonight. I had fun riding around on one of the four-wheelers.

Wichita’s Mark French is the latest coaching casualty in the CHL. I’ve always thought it’s silly how short a leash hockey coaches are on. Players need to play and sometimes they don’t. Of course the old cliche is that you can’t fire the whole team. So it’s never an easy answer.

Locally, the CBA’s RGV Silverados fire their coach and General Manager. Can you say “panic”? Sure enough, the team is 1-10, but what do you expect from an expansion team? And I’m not sure why the GM got the axe. My impression is that the GM ran the business end of things, not the basketball side (kind of like the Bees). I’ve not seen the attendance numbers but considering the team’s been on the road for a while this seems like odd timing. But what do I know, I’m just a radio guy.

Laredo with one win in five games? Corpus beats them twice in a week? Say it ain’t so! And a shutout at the LEC? The sky really is falling!
