Hidalgo, Texas—In a hostile match-up the Youngstown Steelhounds blew past the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 7-2 Sunday afternoon at the Dodge Arena. Former Bee Kurtis Dulle posted three points in the contest (0-3-3), while Chris Richards skated away with three points (2-1-3).

Youngstown notched one goal late in the first by Joel Irving at the 16:26 mark to take the lead 1-0 heading into the second.

Richards picked up his first of two goals just 49 seconds into the second period to put Youngstown up 2-0. Rio’s Jason Slusher posted his first goal of the season on a power play at 12:01 to bring the Bees within one, but Bryan Lachapelle nabbed the eventual game-winner at 15:34 and Jeff Alcombrack posted a goal at 18:26 for Youngstown to take the lead 4-1.

The final period wasn’t much different than the second, with Youngstown posting two more goals one at 2:24 and one at 4:22 to advance the lead to five. The Bees scored once more in the game at 11:05 when Josh Bonar, with the helper from Travis Banga and Lance Herauf, connected on the power play. Eric Przepiorka added one more goal for the Steelhounds.

Layne Sedevie picked up the win in his first start this season with 26 saves, while Van Nynatten suffered the loss with 27 saves.

The Bees host the Arizona Sundogs Friday December 7th at the Dodge Arena, and then head out on the road. They will not return home until December 28. Game time for Friday is 7:35 p.m.

They just stunk the players are communicating with one another. This is a team sport not every man for himself as
some players seem to think. If the team will start working together no matter how bad the refs are we can win. We have already proven that fact.

dont just blame the goaltender and the d. You cant win without scoring. how about using plays - playing as a team, and putting some goals in.

What we need is: a center that can win face-offs; forwards that will get and stay in front of the opponents net (aka Slusher with his deflection goal) and a couple of defensemen that can bring the puck out of our end zone - not just dump it to center ice and wait for our opponents to attack again.

    Why was Slusher playing forward?
What was the ‘time of puck possession’ ratio?
