BUCKS UPSET BEES 2-1

Hidalgo, Texas—Laredo’s Paul Elliot captured the game-winner to lead the Bucks over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 2-1 Friday night at the Dodge Arena. Laredo moves 15 points ahead of the Bees, who hold second place in the Southeast Division.

The game was scoreless until Laredo’s Andrew Desjardins nabbed his sixth goal of the season at 6:29 in the second a goal that trickled past Rio netminder Jeff Van Nynatten. Rio’s Josh Bonar answered with a power play goal at 17:48 to tie it at one going into the third. 

The final period was a back and forth battle with both goaltenders coming up with improbable saves to keep things knotted. Elliott finally broke through, with helpers from Jeff Bes and Serge Dube, with game winner at the 17:31 mark to steal the win from the Bees for the fifth time this season.

Dustin Traylen picked up his 10^th win on the season with 25 saves, while Van Nynatten suffered the loss with 29 saves. 

The Bees travel to Austin to face the Ice Bats Saturday night at Chapparal Ice Center and then return home to the Dodge Arena on Sunday to battle the Youngstown Steelhounds at 4:05 p.m.

NOTES 

-The Bees were outshot in the third period 17-8.

-Van Nynatten and the Rio defense held Laredo 0-for-7 on the power play while their lone goal came on the power play; the Bees went 1-for-6 on the night. 

-Travis Banga posted another assist tonight to tie Dennis Maxwell on the leader board with 13. He now has five assists in his last seven games.

-Jeremy Van Hoof is now one game away from his 400^th career game. He will accomplish that in tomorrow night’s match-up at Austin.
