GAME NOTES, NOV. 27

By admin | November 26, 2007

game-notes-112707.pdf

Here’s this week’s game notes, nice and early for tomorrow’s game at Laredo.

Heck of a comeback win Saturday night. Ken McRae must be losing his mind in Corpus. He’s a good coach and a good guy. Speaking of Corpus, fellow blogger Greg Rajan wrote a very interesting piece about the comparisons between recruiting in college football and the CHL. It’s worth a read.

Here’s my take on David Masse signing in the LNAH. If he felt it was important enough to be near his family, so be it. If I had a family situation and had to leave town, I’d be on the next flight out, as I think anyone would. And if it required a long-term stay and I had a chance to announce games for a college team in the area, I’d do it. The fact that he wants to continue playing should be of no concern to anyone here. It’s not like he jumped ship and signed in the IHL (contractually it wouldn’t be honored anyway). I wouldn’t take it as him not wanting to be here; I look at it as him needing to be THERE.

The LNAH is the league formerly known as the Quebec Senior Pro Hockey League, a.k.a the league where even the trainers fight. No kidding. A player on a former team I worked for had some VHS tapes (if anyone can find a link please let me know, I’ve not been able to come up with anything.) I’m told there are some decent players there, but it’s main drawing card seems to be the brawls.

Here is my question on the Masse issue. If he (Masse) was placed on team suspension, does that limit our ability, as a team, to pick up another player? If so, I would presume that he (Masse) would have told managment of his intentions to return to the team at some point.

It seems to me that, Managment would have wanted to know how long Masse believed he would be gone if it meant losing a roster spot by placing him on team suspension, or are we just not willing to waive him on the fear that he may then sign with another CHL team. At the end of the day though, you have to ask, how long should we wait to fill his roster….if his new league runs until april anyway.

Team suspension opens up both the roster spot and the salary he was getting. Fixter and Gillam didn’t just fall off the turnip truck. If he wanted to go to another CHL team, for whatever reason, a trade would have occurred. I can tell you that the phones are being worked.–RB
