By Killer Bee Hockey | November 24, 2007

Corpus Christi, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees came back from a 4-2 deficit in the third period to take a 6-4 victory over the Corpus Christi Rayz at American Bank Center Saturday night.

Adam Edinger scored the game-winner on the power play, while Dennis Maxwell and Rob Voltera each had four points. Goalie Jeff Van Nynatten made 36 saves in the win and is unbeaten in regulation (4-0-1) in his last five games.

Rio found itself in a 2-0 hole after the first period and trailed until 2:54 into the third. Rob Voltera scored with 27 seconds left in the second to make it 2-1 and then Josh Bonar tied it at 2:54 of the third.

The Rayz responded to take a 4-2 lead with goals by Kevin Watters and Brent Howarth, but the Bees punched back with tallies by Mark O’Leary and Dennis Maxwell. Howarth’s power play goal came at 7:02, while O’Leary responded 34 seconds later to make it a one-goal game. Maxwell scored the tying goal at 9:54, setting the stage for Edinger’s redirect at 17:36. Maxwell added an empty-netter at 19:21.

The Bees improve to 7-6-2 and have won three of their last four games. With the win the Bees pull 10 points ahead of Austin and 11 points in front of Corpus Christi in the Southeast Division standings.

The team’s three-game road trip continues at Laredo this Tuesday. The Bees return the Dodge Arena on Friday, Nov. 30, vs. Laredo at 7:30 p.m.
