Hidalgo, Texas—It was all Odessa Jackalopes as they shut out the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-0 Friday night at the Dodge Arena. Alex Dunn nabbed the game winner early in the first at 2:24 while Odessa went 2-for-8 on the power play for the win. Jacks goalie Alex Vincent had 28 saves for the shutout.
The Jackalopes scored bookend goals in the second period, the first at the 1:01 mark by John Kozoriz. Thinel bagged the second power play of the night to take a 3-0 lead into the final period.
David Lemanowicz suffered the loss ending his night with 30 saves on 33 shots.
The Bees face off with the Youngstown Steelhounds Sunday afternoon at the Dodge Arena. Game time is set for 4:05 p.m. The first 2500 fans receive Thunderfans, while Sport Clips will provide free haircuts for kids 14 and under.

Wow…that wasn’t a pretty performance by the Bees last night. We aren’t taking advantage of our home ice early in the season. Our passing didn’t look too good and we couldn’t control the puck very well. Let’s come back strong against Youngstown and turn this thing around.

It is the worst I have ever seen the Bees play. The passing
just stunk and there was no puck control. If it wasn’t for David being in the goal it could have been a lot worse.
Just hope the game with Youngstown is a lot better it would be a big boost for the team and the fans if there is a win Sunday afternoon.

“Jump” to the ECHL ? I would not have a problem with this a few years ago, but while the ECHL might be considered marginally better than the CHL, I would hardly consider the move mentioned a “jump”.
Youngstown will more than likely be in the ECHL next season from what I have heard. There was talk of the UHL/IHL folding into the CHL, which would have given Youngstown perfect geographic rivals. Who knows if that will eventually happen. From talking to guys who played in both leagues, the ECHL is deeper on the third and fourth lines and is a more frenetic style of play, while the CHL offers a bit more skilled players. Affiliations sound great until you lose your top players to call-ups. Would you rather win or develop?
