Game Notes, Community Events
By admin | November 8, 2007
Here’s the early version of this weekend’s game notes.
Make sure to visit the community events section of the website to see what’s coming up. This Saturday is the car seat giveaway. I’m amazed at how often I see kids in cars jumping around in the back seat, so I’m happy that the team is taking the initiative in helping to promote car seat safety.
Later this month is “Tip A Bee” night at Outback Steakhouse in McAllen. The team will be waiters that night and all the proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It’ll be a fun time and supports an amazing cause. It wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of the staff at Outback - make a return trip there at some point to thank them and tip ‘em well.
Next weekend is our annual food drive. Bring a non-perishable food item; you’ll get a raffle ticket which will be entered to win a Killer Bees prize pack (jersey, tickets, and more).
As far as this weekend’s games, these ought to be tough. Odessa is a much different team than what we’re used to. They’ve been running and gunning with Arizona for the top spot in the Southwest Division. Youngstown is on an epic 14-game road trip and is 7-0-1. Pretty impressive.
Finally, I’m getting whooped in the team NHL fantasy hockey league. First timer, but I’ve already learned this; if you’re going to shell out the money to be in it, make SURE you are there for the draft. I selected about 60 players I wanted and left it on auto-pick, and now I’m paying the price.
That said, the CHL has a fantasy game underway…check it out….
CHL LAUNCHES 2007-08 FANTASY HOCKEY GAME
The Central Hockey League (CHL) continued celebrating the “Year of the Fan” today by introducing its CHL Fantasy Hockey Game that will run through the 2007-08 regular season. The game will available and maintained exclusively through www.centralhockeyleague.com.
Fans are encouraged to register the team and choose their players by Wednesday, November 14th. The season will be divided into three periods allowing fans who miss the first deadline to participate in the second and/or third periods. Teams will be composed of six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders with the teams evenly distributed between Southern and Northern Conference players. The players are selected from pre-determined player pools.
Each period will feature first and second place winners as will the overall season. The overall first place winner will receive a set of 2008 CHL All-Star Jerseys (team autographed), one jersey from each conference. The second place overall winner will receive a CHL prize pack. The first place winner each period will receive a team autographed jersey from the CHL team of their choice and the second place winner will receive a CHL prize pack.
Complete standings will be available on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the season at www.centralhockeyleague.com.
