Hidalgo, Texas— Mark O’Leary nabbed the game-winner with 1:05 left on the clock on the power play to push the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees past the Corpus Christi Rayz 5-4 Friday night at the Dodge Arena. Travis Banga paced the Bees with two goals and two assists.
The first period was a battle of the offense with six goals scored between the two teams, a new franchise record for most goals in one period. Brent Howarth gave the Rayz a very early lead just 39 seconds into the game, followed by Banga with his first of the night at the 2:45 mark. Just 59 seconds later Evan Stoflet netted one giving Corpus Christi the lead once again. Banga nabbed his second on the night at the 6:45 mark followed by the Rayz pulling ahead 4-2 with two more to finish out the first.
Corpus wouldn’t score again. David Masse notched the lone second period goal on a power play at the 4:55 mark, narrowing the Rayz lead to one going into the final period.
Dennis Maxwell tied things up at the 4:46 mark, but it was O’Leary with the final Bees goal and the eventual game-winner with just 1:05 left in the game that would give the Bees the win 5-4. Josh Bonar got the primary helper, one of three on the night.
David Lemanowicz captured his third win on the season ending the night with 24 saves on 28 shots, while Jason Tapp suffered the loss for the Rayz with 34 saves on 39 shots.
Next up the Bees face the rival Laredo Bucks Saturday night at the Dodge Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

That was one of the best games! It was a bumpy start but it got better by the minute. We fought tooth and nail for that win even though we had 3 “supposed” no goals we still bagged it. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Corpus! GO BEES GO!!!
