BEES SIGN DEFENSEMAN HEDBERG

By admin | November 1, 2007

Hidalgo, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League today announced the signing of defenseman Jon Hedberg. Hedberg will be in the lineup tonight as the Bees visit Laredo at 7 p.m.

A 6-0, 210-pound native of Duluth, Minnesota, Hedberg played three seasons (1999-2002) of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with Guelph, Oshawa and Sault Ste. Marie. He then went on to play four seasons of Canadian University hockey at York University from 2002-06. In 301 amateur games, he collected 138 points (37-101-138) and 274 PIM.

Hedberg turned pro in 2006 and appeared in 16 games for the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) upon completion of his university season. He played 37 games last season for Peiting EC in the German Oberliga and also appeared in two games for the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL). He attended training camp with the Elmira Jackals (ECHL) before signing with the Bees.

“Jon is a nice addition to our blue line player who will help in all facets of our defensive game,” said Killer Bees Head Coach Paul Fixter.

The Killer Bees host Corpus Christi tomorrow night at home, and then face Laredo Saturday night. Both games at Dodge Arena begin at 7:30 p.m.
