BEES OPEN SEASON WITH A BANG

By | October 20, 2007

Hidalgo, Texas-  David Masse scored the game winner in the Bees 3-2 victory against the Corpus Christi Rayz Friday night at Dodge Arena in front of 5401 fans.

Chris Mei opened up the scoring 3:54 in the first period, to give the Rayz the early lead. Bees newcomer Adam Edinger evened up the score at the 18:55 mark. Just 39 seconds later Rob Voltera gave the Bees their first lead of the game off of a shot from David Masse and Travis Banga.

Adam Powell was quick to tie things up in the second period for the Rayz  making the score 2-2 at 2:28. At 5:09 David Masse knocked home the eventual game-winner off passes from Nick Warriner and Dan Stastny.

Play in the third period was back in forth with the Rayz trying to pick up the equalizer and the Bees trying to add to their lead.

Rio netminder David Lemanowicz earned the win stopping 40 of 42 shots with Rayz goaltender Jason Tapp picking up the loss with 39 stops on 42 shots. The teams were a combined 0-for-8 on the power play with Corpus going 0-for-5.

The Bees travel to Corpus Christi tomorrow with game time set for 7:05pm.

The game was awesome and the crowd was inspiring. We got to the game by 7:00pm and the parking and the concessions were packed. I was really happy that we had such a good season opener … all the way around ….

Great athmosphere, it Dodge reminds me a lot of junior A hockey teams in Canada where the whole city “gets into it” and supports their team like there’s no tomorrow. This was only my second game at the Dodge (ironically the first was also against the Rayz) i can’t get over the fact that there is a successful hockey team so close to Mexico (and mind you I love Mexico, and speak fluent Spanish) anyway great game throughout et felicitations David pour ton but vanqeur! (Kudos to David Masse on his game winning goal) and Dave way to defend the net !! As a goalie myself, I know how challenging that can be !!

Great win by the Killerbees! The crowd was amazing, everyone was into the game, we have the best fans in the CHL. Good luck Bees in Corpus, can’t make it but our spirits are with all Killerbee players and staff.

    GO BEES GO

The pyrotechnics were nice, but I’d rather be able to see the game (I couldn’t find my smoke goggles). Our two goalies may be league-low GA this season - they’re sure good! Thanks, CC for the point.
