A Cut, A Signing, More Cuts

By | October 18, 2007

The Bees waived center Tristan Senior and signed defenseman Jason Slusher.

Slusher played last season with Pee Dee in the SPHL (6-2, 212) and also played two games with Trenton (ECHL). He also played briefly with New England College (with Nick Warriner and Travis Banga) before going on to Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania.

That means 20 players on the roster; 7 D-men, 11 forwards and two goalies. There’s still another cut to be made, maybe two, and the choice does not seem obvious. It’s gotta be a tough decision, which I think speaks to the recruiting job Paul Fixter and Sean Gillam have done. Judging by the numbers, it appears a defenseman will be given walking papers. But with Tyler Fuller questionable to start the season (undisclosed injury), it makes things interesting.

Remember, teams can carry 19 if they choose. That decision boils down to salary cap issues. You can only add another player if two players are placed on injured reserve, as I understand it (I’m sure I’ll hear about it if that’s not the case).

To break it down, do you go with…

2 goalies, 11 forwards and 6 D (19 players)

2 goalies, 10 forwards and 6 D (18 players)

2 goalies, 12 or 11 forwards and 5 D, with a guy like Maxwell who play both?

We’ll know by 3 p.m. Thursday.

By the way, does anyone plan on bringing a radio to the arena? Does anyone even have a radio (or walkman) anymore? I got one at Big Lots for 8 bucks to test out the signal.
